For Immediate Release:
WordPress Users Across Southeast Asia to Converge at WordCamp Kuala Lumpur 2018
30 October 2018, Kuala Lumpur – WordCamp Kuala Lumpur (WCKL) returns for its second edition on 17 and 18 November 2018 at the Royale Chulan Bukit Bintang hotel with the theme “The WordPress Melting Pot” to emphasise the diversity of the WordPress (WP) community.
WordCamp Kuala Lumpur is a part of a series of global conferences held around the world about WordPress, the global web publishing platform that powers over 31.9% of websites on the web as reported in w3techs.com, an independent web technology survey. Organised by a team of volunteers, WCKL 2018 will also feature several sessions in Bahasa Malaysia for the first time. Attendees will be immersed in talks about blogging, website traffic, search engine optimisation (SEO), website design and development topics and more. The one-day conference will bring together over 200 small business owners, NGO leaders, bloggers, designers, developers and professional content writers from across Malaysia and around the region.
“Everyone can use WordPress because it’s free and open-source software. Similarly, WordCamp is a casual, friendly conference that is inclusive of the entire community,” said Rindy Portfolio, Lead Organiser for WordCamp KL this year. “Whether you’ve used WordPress for years, or you are newly learning about it, WordCamp is a welcoming event that is both educational and lots of fun!” Co-organisers include Malaysians David Wang of ClickWP, Sam Suresh of MU.DOT.MY and Andy Saw of WP Web Host.
Contributor Day at DOJO KL
While Saturday offers a full day of speaker presentations, Sunday will feature Contributor Day, held at co-working hub DOJO KL. There are many ways to contribute, and group leaders will explain concrete ways to do so, for folks who are new. It’s a great way to give back to WordPress, and it’s included in the cost of a WCKL ticket.
“Our goal is to grow the local WordPress community. We’ve had great success with our monthly Meetups, but WordCamp KL – plus Contributor Day – is a larger event which will help introduce WordPress to a larger audience,” said co-organiser David Wang from Kuala Lumpur.

Fact sheet
What is WordPress.org?
WordPress started in 2003 when Mike Little and Matt Mullenweg created a fork of b2/cafelog. The need for an elegant, well-architected personal publishing system was clear even then. Today, WordPress is built on PHP and MySQL, and licensed under the GPLv2. It is also the platform of choice for over 31% of all sites across the web.
The WordPress open source project has evolved in progressive ways over time — supported by skilled, enthusiastic developers, designers, scientists, bloggers, and more. WordPress provides the opportunity for anyone to create and share, from handcrafted personal anecdotes to world-changing movements. People with a limited tech experience can use it “out of the box”, and more tech-savvy folks can customize it in remarkable ways.
