For Immediate Release
Third edition of #Move8 Walkathon by Asia Fitness Today held in conjunction with International Women’s Day, raises funds for shelter home for underprivileged girls
Kuala Lumpur, 28 February 2019 – The #Move8 Walkathon is putting out a last call to all Malaysian men, women and children to join the third edition this Sunday, 3 March 2019 at Dataran DBKL in conjunction with International Women’s Day at the KL Car Free Morning in support of beneficiary, Home of Peace Kuala Lumpur – a shelter home for underprivileged girls.
The International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on 8 March and this year its theme is #BalanceforBetter, a call-to-action for driving gender balances across the world. Although it is called a day for women, each year’s theme is encouraged to be celebrated year-long. This edition of the #Move8 Walkathon will support the Home of Peace’s new project; a school for children who are generally disadvantaged, thus giving them a brand new start in life and hope for a brighter future.
Founder and director, Justine Morais shares, “It is our firm belief that Education is a major key in breaking the cycle of poverty. Hence our objective is to provide free education to children from Welfare Homes or orphanages and to children who are disadvantaged financially. We aim to provide education at a low cost to children from low income families. These children often find themselves misfits in regular schools as they need personal attention and eventually drop out of school without obtaining the education they need and deserve. Hence, we are trying our best to get them the education they desperately need”.
The #Move8 Walkathon on 3 March will be kicking off the celebration by encouraging participants of all ages and gender to take part in the walkathon, with a treasure hunt along the route to add brain stimuli for participants.
“Our goal with the #Move8 fitness movement is to get 2 million Malaysians moving and exercising. They could start from their workplace and in the weekends with their families. There’s always an element of fun infused into the movements at each of our events. Participants can join the 3KM, 5KM or 7KM route which incorporates a treasure hunt created by a veteran treasure hunt organiser William aka Eventgelist. Invite someone to walk with you and discover Kuala Lumpur like you’ve never seen before,” said Jasmine Low and Nikki Yeo, co-creators of the #Move8 fitness movement.
Launched in July 2018, #Move8 fitness movement is a community engagement initiative by fitness startup AsiaFitnessToday.com (AFT) with a goal to get 2 million Malaysians moving by 2020. The startup is operated by Go International Group Dotcom Sdn Bhd and the #Move8 events are organised in collaboration with KL Car Free Morning by DBKL and Multigreen Events with support from partners Sonneaire Hybrid Air-conditioning Systems, Dr. Group Holdings Chocolate Museum Kota Damansara and 100Plus.
#Move8 Walkathon participants can choose to walk between the 3KM, 5KM and 7KM route flagging off at 7:00 am from Dataran DBKL on No. 1 Jalan Raja Laut in Kuala Lumpur. The treasure hunt comprises of challenging questions corresponding to their chosen route.
True to the International Women’s Day theme #BalanceforBetter, participants are encouraged to go along the treasure hunt routes in groups of mixed genders.
“The International Women’s Day 2019 calls for everyone, regardless of gender, to play a part in creating a gender-balanced world. So, in the spirit of the theme, we would like to see treasure hunt groups in mixed genders walking along the routes and figuring out the answers together. After all, two heads are better than one!,” added Zin Dahari Zainal Abidin, Chairman of Go International Group Dotcom.
Participation fees are RM100 for all participants, and RM64 for senior citizens above 65 years and non-profit groups. All participants will receive a commemorative 999 silver coin medal, a t-shirt, breakfast, a goodie bag as well as an entry to a lucky draw. From the fees, 10% will be donated to Home of Peace Kuala Lumpur, a registered non-profit organisation.
